The Holocaust was an unprecedented genocide which was the central event of modern history and modern Jewish history. As professor Yehuda Bauer argues, the Holocaust, as a human event, can be a precedent or a warning. It is our mission to make the Holocaust a warning. In times when hate crimes, antisemitism, racism, and xenophobia are on the rise and are threatening our democracies, we believe it is essential to learn the lessons of the Holocaust, especially when survey after survey show that Holocaust education and knowledge is on decline.
Therefore, together with the Division of Global Education, I have created a study abroad program open to students, staff, faculty, and community members to travel to Germany and Poland to learn about the Holocaust.
We will spend 15 days visiting the following cities and sites: Berlin, Ravensbruck, Warsaw, Treblinka, Bialystok, Tykocin, Lupuchova, Lublin, Majdanek, Krakow, Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Our next trip will take place in June 2027. If you are interested in learning more about the program email me at [email protected].
